I read the guardian article “How much fossil fuel has been used in your lifetime?” with some interest. There are a staggering amount of statistics on the webpage and it made me realise how fast we are using up the remaining fossil fuel we have. However from a planning perspective it also made me realise the need to plan for alternative sources of fuel. This is already happening to a certain extent with Solar Panels and Wind Farms but sometimes having a long term view is vitally important. Is your planning system capable of looking 2 years, 5 years or even 10 years into the future? The nuclear industry has to plan over 50 years ahead for the safe storage of spent nuclear rods. How far are you looking over your horizon?
