What risk have Channel 4 taken for the Great British Bake Off?

So the long awaited new Bake Off series is set to launch in the autumn according to the guardian “Channel 4’s Bake Off set ‘will be product-placement-free”. As the article describes the biggest challenge facing Channel 4 at the moment is selling advertising at a premium cost so it can re-coup the outlay it has made to obtain the series. Channel 4 have obviously taken a risk in paying for the series before they have re-couped the money for it. It brings to mind one of our tips which suggests that when making plans such as this “the amount of planning should be proportional to the risk involved.” In this case I hope Channel 4 planned very carefully for the investment it was making into the Bake Off series.
